Subway ride

Subway ride

This environment is tailored to patients who have a hard time taking underground public transportation. At the start of the simulation, the patient will be in a square standing in front of the underground entrance. 

SETTINGS VARIABLES
  • Gender
    Choose between a male or female body. A neutral body is selected by default.
  • Skin tone
    Choose the skin tone that best represents your patient to enhance the feeling of immersion.
  • Amount of people
    None / Few / Maximum
  • Clean environment
    Will expose the patient to a well maintained area. 
  • Dirty environment
    Their surroundings ( walls, floor, etc.) will appear more unattended for (stains, graffiti, etc). This will provoke a greater sense of anxiety.
  • Sanitary mask
    You can choose whether or not the people around you will have a mask.

Before the patient takes the train, the healthcare professional can elaborate on some of the patient’s thoughts about their surroundings or ask them questions while waiting at the platform entrance. The healthcare professional can choose different events to occur afterwards. 

EVENTS
  • Hall
    The avatar is located in the hall, where machines to buy train tickets are, before entering the underground station.
  • Tunnel
    The avatar enters the underground station and takes a moving walkway that leads to the platform through a tunnel.
  • Platform
    The avatar is on the platform, waiting for the train to arrive.
  • Metro arrival
    While on the platform, the avatar sees the subway arriving. He will be able to get on it and will start his trip in the carriage.
  • Next station
    As you travel inside the metro wagon, this event will simulate the avatar heading towards the next stop (the PA system will indicate that they are arriving at the next stop). 
  • Exit
    This event will cause the avatar to get off the wagon. When it has descended, the avatar watches from the platform as the subway leaves.
  • Breakdown On/Off
  • Breakdown On/Off
    Activating this event will cause the train to come to an unexpected halt inside the tunnel. You will hear a braking noise, the lights will turn off and the PA will announce that there has been a momentary breakdown that will soon be repaired. The train will remain stagnant until the healthcare professional allows the simulation to resume (clicking on the button Off). After that , the train will continue its journey to the destination. Keep in mind that this option will only be available when the patient is inside the train, otherwise it will be blocked.

Trayecto en metro

Este entorno permite trabajar con aquellos pacientes que tienen dificultades para coger transportes públicos como, por ejemplo, el metro. Nos encontramos en una plaza, delante de la boca (entrada) del metro. 

VARIABLES DE CONFIGURACIÓN
  • Género
    Elige entre un cuerpo de hombre o de mujer. Por defecto será un cuerpo neutro.
  • Tono de piel
    Elige el tono de piel que mejor representa a tu paciente para mejorar la sensación de inmersión.
  • Cantidad de gente
    Nadie / Poca / Mucha
  • Ambiente limpio
    Este se verá más cuidado.
  • Ambiente sucio
    El entorno (paredes, suelo…) aparecerá más descuidado (manchas, graffitis…), generando mayor sensación de inseguridad.
  • Mascarilla sanitaria
    Se podrá elegir si las personas del entorno tendrán o no mascarilla.

Antes de que el paciente coja el metro, podemos trabajar los pensamientos desde el propio vestíbulo, o en el andén viendo pasar el metro sin cogerlo (ambos escenarios se describen a continuación). 

EVENTOS
  • Plaza
    El avatar se encuentra en el exterior (una plaza), justo delante de la boca (entrada) del metro.
  • Hall
    El avatar se encuentra en el vestíbulo, donde están las máquinas para comprar los billetes, antes de adentrarse en el metro.
  • Túnel
    El avatar se adentra en el metro dirección al andén por un túnel a través de una cinta transportadora. 
  • Andén
    El avatar está en el andén, esperando que llegue el metro.
  • Llegada al metro
    Estando en el andén, el avatar ve como llega el metro. Podrá subirse en él e iniciará su viaje en el vagón.
  • Siguiente estación
    Mientras viaja dentro del vagón de metro, este evento simulará que el avatar se dirige hacia la siguiente parada (por megafonía se indicará que se está llegando a la siguiente estación). Una vez llegue a la parada, se abrirán las puertas. 
  • Salida
    Este evento hará que el avatar se baje del vagón. Cuando haya bajado, el avatar verá desde el andén como se va el metro. 
  • Avería
    Activando este evento, de repente el metro se detendrá dentro del túnel (se escuchará un ruido de frenada), se irá la luz y por megafonía se anunciará que ha habido una avería momentánea que en breve será arreglada. Ésta permanecerá hasta que el terapeuta desactive el evento (pulsando encima del botón Off); entonces, el metro volverá a funcionar. Hay que tener en cuenta que esta opción sólo estará disponible cuando el paciente se encuentre dentro del metro, sino estará bloqueada.

Shopping in a small mall

Four environments in 360 format that propose that the patient goes all the way out of the subway to enter the Mall. The patient will also be able to observe all the people entering and exiting as they make their way to the first floor.

  • “Subway exit” The patient is next to a set of stairs on the ground floor of the mall observing people walking by and shopping from a certain distance. 
  • “Street. Far away from the mall entrance”  In this case the patient is standing outside on a street about 30m away from the shopping center. They can see all the people entering the center and walking around the area beside the city traffic.
  • “At the mall entrance” This environment, in 360 format, takes place inside of the mall near the entrance. The patient will see quite a few people shopping around and will be able to experience how it feels when it’s crowded. 
  • “In the middle of the first floor” Located on the first floor in the middle of all the shops surrounded by people walking around and shopping.

De compras en centro comercial pequeño

Cuatro entornos 360º que proponen al paciente hacer todo el recorrido de salir del metro hasta entrar al Centro Comercial pudiendo observar toda la gente que entra y sale de este aparte del tráfico que hay y finalmente poder subir al primer piso. 

  • “Salida del metro” El paciente está en la planta baja del centro al lado de unas escaleras dónde puede observar la multitud de gente paseando y comprando pero con cierta distancia.
  • “Calle lejos de la entrada” En este caso el paciente se encuentra en la calle fuera de un centro comercial a unos 30m de él, por lo que podrá ver toda la gente que entra y que pasea por la zona, además del tráfico de la ciudad. 
  • “En la entrada del centro comercial” Este entorno muestra desde una perspectiva en 360º el interior de un centro comercial justo al lado de la entrada. El paciente podrá ver distintas personas paseando y realizando compras, ya que el sitio va a estar bastante concurrido.
  • “En la zona central del primer piso” Situado en el primer piso en medio de todas las tiendas se puede observar a la gente paseando y comprando.

Four environments in 360 format that show different situations in a Mall with many people. In these environments, the patient will be able to move his head to look in different directions and experience a greater sense of presence than with the traditional environments.

  • “Ground floor on stairs” The patient is on the ground floor of the Mall next to the stairs observing people walking by and shopping from a certain distance.
  • “In the middle of the ground floor” In this scenario, the patient is in the middle of the ground floor surrounded by a multitude of people passing by from all sides.
  • “Ground floor next to a column” The patient is still surrounded by people on the ground floor, but this time, standing next to a column.
  • “Ground floor next to a column” This simulation is very similar to Event 3, but from another point of view on the ground floor.

On the way to shop

  • “Underground exit” This environment shows the exit of a subway stop. Two main moments can be distinguished: when a lot of people enter and leave the metro station (because a train has arrived) and another one in which there is not much fluidity of people since only people who are entering appear.
  • “Street away from the entrance.” In this case the patient is in the street outside a Mall about 30m from him, so you can see all the people who enter and walk through the area, as well as the traffic of the city
  • “Street near the entrance.” In this case the patient is also in the street but this time much closer to the entrance of the Mall.
  • “At the entrance to the Mall.” This environment shows from a 360º perspective the interior of a Mall right next to the entrance. The patient will be able to see different people strolling and shopping, as the site will be quite crowded.

Moreover, the healthcare professional therapist can control exposure to anxiogenic interoceptive sensations.

De camino a las compras

Varios entornos 360º que muestran el camino hacia un Centro Comercial, desde la salida del metro, como se va acercando al centro y finalmente en la entrada ya desde dentro:

  • “Salida del metro” Este entorno muestra la salida de una parada de metro. Se pueden diferenciar dos momentos principales: cuando entra y sale mucha gente de la parada de metro (porque ha llegado un tren) y otro en que no hay mucha fluidez de gente ya que solo aparecen personas que van entrando.
  • “Calle lejos de la entrada” En este caso el paciente se encuentra en la calle fuera de un Centro Comercial a unos 30m de él, por lo que podrá ver toda la gente que entra y que pasea por la zona, además del tráfico de la ciudad.
  • “Calle cerca de la entrada” En este caso el paciente se encuentra en la calle también pero esta vez mucho más cerca de la entrada del Centro Comercial.
  • “En la entrada del Centro Comercial” Este entorno muestra desde una perspectiva en 360º el interior de un Centro Comercial justo al lado de la entrada. El paciente podrá ver distintas personas paseando y realizando compras, ya que el sitio va a estar bastante concurrido.

Además, el terapeuta profesional de la salud puede controlar la exposición a las sensaciones interoceptivas ansiogénicas.

Por otro lado, existe la posibilidad de practicar un ejercicio de relajación para reducir la ansiedad del paciente y enseñarle a utilizar estas técnicas y cómo aplicarlas en la vida real.
